Aurora Through the Archives: [un]Framed and in Focus

Back as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival, Aurora Through the Archives: [un]Framed and in Focus returns to Town Square with a renewed focus on carte de visite photography — an early and widely popular form of portraiture from the late 19th century.

This immersive exhibition invites visitors to step into the past and explore local history through a visually rich narrative. At its core, the exhibition highlights the intimate and socially significant nature of carte de visite images, offering a glimpse into how people chose to present themselves and be remembered.

Each original photograph is paired with an interpretive frame that reveals deeper layers of meaning. Enlarged details and contextual text draw attention to subtle elements within the compositions, uncovering the stories of the individuals, families, and communities captured in these historic images.

On view until August 22!
